Teeth treatment in Japan

Today was a big day. I finally went to the dentist in Tokyo to deal with my aching tooth and gums. I’ve been putting this off for way too long, but the pain became unbearable, and I knew I couldn’t ignore it any longer.

The dentist examined my teeth and gave me the news I was half-expecting but still dreading: one of my teeth was severely decayed. Apparently, it had been weakened over a long time, and now it’s broken. The dentist explained that there’s no saving it—it needs to be pulled out.

I felt a mix of relief and anxiety. Relief because I’ll finally be free of the constant ache, but anxiety because, well, losing a tooth feels like a big deal. The dentist reassured me that it’s the right move to prevent further damage or infection.

The extraction itself wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The dentist numbed the area, and before I knew it, the tooth was out. It’s strange to think that something that’s been a part of me for so long is just gone now.

After the procedure, the dentist talked to me about options for replacing the tooth. One of the options is a dental implant. It sounds like the best long-term solution—it’s durable, looks natural, and prevents bone loss in the jaw. But it’s also a big decision, both financially and time-wise, since the process can take several months.

For now, I’m focusing on healing. The dentist gave me some instructions: no hard foods, no smoking, and keeping the area clean. I’m also using a temporary flipper tooth to fill the gap when I smile. It feels a little odd, but it’s better than having a missing tooth.

I’m still weighing my options about the implant. The dentist mentioned that the cost for one tooth is approximately JPY 500,000 (around EUR 3,150). It’s a significant investment, but I think it might be worth it in the long run for something that looks and functions like a natural tooth.

For now, I’m just glad the pain is gone and that I’m on the path to fixing this.

More updates soon.
